Architectural Sights: Churches
Images from a photography enthusiast based in Oslo
I seem to have collected a number of images of churches over the past couple of years.
Here is a collection of these structures, taken around parts of Norway, in Paris, London, and Aachen, Germany as well as the Gotland, and Skåne regions in Sweden — all from travels in 2024 and 2025.
Have a scroll through and thanks for your visit!
A big thank-you for taking the time to stop by! Hope you will be back next time.
(Pssst: The church in the first image is actually the least old of all those shown here. It’s a baby — just completed in 2016. Most of the churches in this collection were either built back in the 1200s — including the Undredal stav church which happens to be the smallest stave church still in use in Scandinavia — or in the 11th century, including Dalby kyrka in Skåne and Nidarosdomen — which took 230 years to build, starting back in 1070. The oldest of the bunch shown here is the Aachen Cathedral, which was consecrated way back in the year 805. Whew! Talk about ancient architecture!!)

Wow! Such an impressive variety of churches! And the composition you've chosen for each one is quite striking.
One of the things I love about Substack's photography community is how international in scope it is. Earlier this morning I enjoyed Li Chen's images of Hong Kong and I then followed that with your work from Norway (and beyond). My horizons--sometimes literally--are consistently broadened via Substack's contributors. Thank you!
Churches (more particularly their architecture and history) interest me. This is an impressive set of photos. I know Christ Church Spitalfield (in London) well as it sits between the City, where I worked, and Brick Lane where some of London's best Indian restaurants can be found. It's also quite central to the area where 'Jack the Ripper' operated in 1888.
