Last week, I posted scenes from our overnight stay in Bremen, one of our last stops as we headed back to Oslo on our 3 week European road trip. Today, I wanted to post shots that offer a more detailed look at some of the sights we came across.
Much of our time was spent wandering around the market square in Bremen, where the buildings are festooned with (in my opinion) crazy and fun architectural details: lots of gargoyles and faces, as well as loads of figures and mythical creatures, in addition to the grand medieval and Renaissance architecture itself. I liked the building materials as well, as brick and stone are favourites.
Here is an image collection of architectural details (chock full of creatures and figures), some stand-alone sculptures, and a few more modern, random items and that caught my eye in Bremen on a summer evening last year. Have a look and thanks for your visit!
Thank you for stopping by. Hope to see you again next time!
(Psst: Anyone from the area aware of the real story behind the Obdachloser mit Einkaufswagen — the figure with the cart? Most search results for me were in German but all I could find was that the sculpture just appeared one day. Also, can anyone figure out what the kinda creepy guy in the fifth image, on the facade of a more modern structure, is holding in his hand? Finally, I am curious whether anyone has a favourite gargoyle. I love a gargoyle…)
Awesome photos. I'm not sure what the creepy statue in image #5 is holding. Maybe a container for a scroll or something? I like the lion motifs - so interesting to see the different styles.
Wonderful detail images - so many opportunities!
