While in Sweden for a week back in April, we visited an ancient set of stones located east of Ystad, where we were based.
Called Ale's Stones (Ales Stenar), this oval monument of 59 stones, dated to over a thousand years ago, are arranged on a bluff overlooking the Baltic Sea.
We visited on a bright, sunny afternoon and with that harsh lighting, I knew I'd likely edit most of the shots in black and white.
Here are a few images taken during our visit to Ale's Stones in the Skåne region of Sweden. Have a look-see and many thanks for your visit!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you’ll be back again next time.
(Pssst: Well, I guess those “in the know” actually do NOT know exactly what purpose this monument served, although theories abound: Monument? Grave? Sun calendar? Whatever purpose it served, I find it very cool that the effort put in so long ago has resulted in our ability to visit and marvel at the result all these years later. Do you have a favourite ancient monument you’ve visited or have on your bucket list to see?)
Wow, those stones look amazing and your black and white images really bring them to life. I imagine as a subject it's not that easy to photograph but I really like the first and second shots and the contrast in the 6th shot with the pale stones against the dark sky.
Composition elicits a connection to our past and a view of the future. Well done.
