This week, I decided to post a collection of macro shots of little critters I found around the house (as was the case with the spiders and moths) or garden. When coming across these tiny visitors I tend to grab my macro lens and take some snaps before depositing them into the outside world.
The majority of the shots here are of one particular snail which I found on a maple leaf in the garden and, instead of pointing it out to my ducks as a tasty treat, decided to capture some images before returning it, unharmed (to a neighbor’s garden).
I was fascinated with the eyes on the ends of the snail’s tentacles, and tried to capture its “personality” in various shots as it roamed around the leaf, retracting and coming out of its shell as the photoshoot carried on.
I always appreciate all who visit — thank you!
The snail, fully out of its shell, with almost a grudging smile
A teensy tiny jumping spider found in the house, encouraged onto a sheet of paper for a shot or two, then magic-carpeted outdoors
The snail at the edge of the leaf
The snail disappears with the end of its foot clutching the top of the leaf
My first time seeing this type of spider and wondering why its huge pedipalps look so much like boxing gloves
Another look at the snail with its tentacles fully extended (is it still smiling?)
This moth was clinging to the white frame of the front door, a willing subject until I nudged it away
It’s peeking…am I still there? Oh, geeez, I am.
A different moth found in the house, transferred to some black foam for a shot or two and then escorted outside
Looking with that eye as if to say, “Stop already with all those pictures, woman!”
The same “boxing glove” spider hanging upside-down
Looking a bit downcast. Literally.
Another little jumping spider on a piece of white paper
I let the snail crawl off the leaf and onto the hood of the car (my impromptu studio) to get a fancy reflection shot
Thanks again for your visit and see you next time!
Black and White moth is the most dramatic photo in this grouping. All are excellent examples of macro shots, lighting and background. Well done!
Wow, those are amazing photos, I love the snails' eyes particularly
